yeah...so, um, let's hear it for campus police and unfounded quota stops....
driving around campus last saturday night after the GT/Vanderbilt football game, i got pulled over by a campus cop.
for those that are familiar with the area, i was coming down Hemphill toward Ferst, turned right onto Ferst and then right into the west campus housing area.
this cop was being totally sneaky and hiding his huge black and white cruiser behind a telephone pole ACROSS FROM THE POLICE STATION! yeah, um, i only saw him from the top of the hill at 10th street. anyway, i naturally check my speed and continue on my way.
once i pass him, however, he pulls out behind me and follows me toward my dorm. eventually the lights come on. i smirked.
our conversation was as follows (keep in mind we were on campus the night of a football game):
Mr. Policeman: Can i see your license and proof of insurance please?
Me: Of course
Mr. Policeman: Do you know why i pulled you over Mr. Lang?
Me: No sir.
Mr. Policeman: How many drinks have you had tonight?
Me: Two (which was in fact the truth)
Mr. Policeman: When did you have your last drink?
Me: Almost two hours ago.
Mr Policeman: I pulled you over because you while driving you crossed the double yellow line....twice.(TWICE!!!!)
Me: umm, I'm pretty sure i didn't. i haven't had too much to drink tonight.
Mr. Policeman: (handing me back my registration with my insurance information on it) this is your registration. do you have proof of insurance?
Me: (caught offguard, i begin looking through my glove compartment. i can only begin to think he's checking my motor skills at this point, trying to find reason to give me a sobriety test) i think it's in my glove compartment.......no, that's all i have (referring to the registration card)
Mr. Policeman: you DO have insurance on the car, don't you?
Me: yes sir.
Mr. Policeman: alright, you can go...just be careful
quota stops are awesome....
